Vegan MoFo - September 1st

You're getting two posts in one this week! I started the post last week but didn't manage to find time to finish it, so now you have two weeks amalgamated into one...

It seems I have a few updates to talk about!

Let's start with the most exciting. I heard back from environmental health and they have signed off my kitchen. I can now legally sell my products - yay! (The charity baking I've done previously was still legal as you don't have to register your kitchen for one off events such as charity, school cake stall, etc. That applies to where I am anyway.) So it looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me, working out pricing etc but if anyone wants anything specific then let me know and I'll cost it up for you.

Look what I got through the post last week (modelled on my lovely new cupcake shaped chalk board). Yay! I've been testing my recipe for the next event (Music) but its top secret at the moment so no pics I'm afraid!

We also went down to Food on the Field in Copley last week. It was a lovely way to spend some time over the bank holiday weekend. Beautiful weather, live music, nice stalls to look at. And the lovely Sarah at Madeline Express had made a batch of gluten-free vegan cookies for me to try. They were amazing. A delicate melt-in-your-mouth texture combined with a beautiful flavour = wonderful! Mr Hatter tried some of the non vegan items and they were so good that he went back to try something else too!

And now for this week's news. Today is the first day of Vegan MoFo (Vegan Month of Food) and also the first day of Real Bread's Sourdough September. So tonight I've put together my first ever sourdough starter - excited to see how it turns out! (This is another recipe from my Paul Hollywood book...)

The idea of Vegan MoFo is to post a blog a day about vegan food. As this is my first year taking part in Vegan MoFo, I've decided to theme my days of the week to make it a bit easier to blog every day (with hopefully some sourdough sneaking in somewhere). Fingers crossed!

In other news:

I had my first experience of Jolly Yum ice cream. I heard about them a while ago and they've now started selling it down the road from me. Beautiful. I would definitely recommend it.

II made my most successful rye bread yet (courtesy of Paul Hollywood) and some banana-date scones to use up some old bananas. I also made a couple of batches of cookies this weekend while we had friends over but ended up not taking photos, oops!
