Another month, another yummy box from The Vegan Kind!

February's box contained:

eat chic Box of Two Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Chikas Sea Salt and Black Pepper Cashews
Ombar Centres Coconut & Vanilla
Ten Acre Sour Cream and Chive Popcorn
Human+Kind Grapefruit Shampoo and Body Wash
TG Green Teabags

Chocolate and snacks are a great way to my heart!

Snack Time!

eat chic Box of Two Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I love it when I get eat chic chocolates in my TVK boxes. They are amazing. This artisan chocolatier is based in East London and makes the most gorgeous but butter cups I have ever had. These ones were filled with coconut peanut butter and topped with toasted coconut... YUM! I think I'm going to have to go on a mission to try all the flavours...

Chikas Sea Salt and Black Pepper Cashews

Chika's is another brand that I've tried before. I tried their plantain chips from one of the boxes and didn't like them, so they sent me some smoked almonds which were ace! These cashews are just as good and perfect for a mid morning snack.

Ombar Centres Coconut & Vanilla

Dodgy phone flash photo alert!
I love Ombar. Their chocolate is all the right kinds of sweet and creamy while still being somewhat good for you. I snapped up one of these new "centres" bars as soon as I saw it in my local health food shop so was very happy to get one in this month's box. It is made up of a creamy coconut and vanilla filling, coated in their lovely 60% chocolate. This bar is very melt-in-the-mouth (and was gone very quickly!)

Ten Acre Sour Cream and Chive Popcorn

I am yet to find a flavour from Ten Acre that I don't like. This popcorn reminded me of what I remember cream cheese and chive pringles tasting like - but with a hint of sweetness. I'd definitely eat these again!

Human+Kind Grapefruit Shampoo and Body Wash

I'm usually pretty skeptical about products that claim to be 2-in-1. How can one product be the best choice for two jobs? But I gave this a go as both the body wash and shampoo that it claims to be and was pleasantly surprised. It smells lush, and actually left my hair feeling great. Maybe I'll have to curb my 2-in-1 skepticism from now on!

TG Green Teabags

I don't like green teat so I've donated these to Mr Hatter - but he has yet to try them. He was excited about the prospect of green tea in pyramid bags though!

The recipe card this month is another lovely looking one from Bit Of The Good Stuff - Creamy Coconut Dhal with Butternut Squash. Sounds like a great winter warmer!

This month's charity is C-A-L-F Animal Sanctuary, who I've been following on Facebook for a while now. They are currently looking for a new home as their tenancy at the current location hasn't been renewed, so it's great that 10p from each box will be going to them this month. They also have a donation page here if you feel like giving them a helping hand.

A Halloween Wedding

Last year, some of our closest friends got married on Halloween - what an awesome date for a wedding!

It was fantastic to be a part of their big day (it had been a long time coming!), and I also had the honour of baking the cake.

The happy couple opted for a big flavour filled cake rather than a fondant covered one, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. We even managed to get it all the way to their house with minor casualties! (They live a couple of hours drive away - one of the most stressful journeys I've had in my two years of driving...)

This was a huge layered chocolate orange cake, topped with chopped chocolate orange fondant thins and homemade chocolate orange truffles, and finished off with a band of homemade candied orange peel around the base. The slices were huge!

Everyone seemed to enjoy it - who doesn't like chocolate orange??

We also managed to come away with some lovely wedding favours. Each guest was given a bouquet stuffed full of tasty treats, so Mr Hatter and I got a huge bouquet each full of vegan stuff! Bonus!

On a not-so-cake-related note, I want to show you the custom Pop Vinyl ring holder that Mr Hatter made. You can check out more of his work on his blog Northern Revenant. Just look at the detail on that hair!

Game Of Thrones Cake

I made a Game Of Thrones themed cake this week and thought you might like to see some photos!

The main cake was a chocolate cake, with vanilla cupcakes on top. The whole thing was iced with vanilla frosting and then topped with vegan white chocolate ganache drips, red fondant leaves, mini Pop Vinyl figures, and a scroll.

It was so much fun to make!

Some close ups:

I think the birthday girl liked it!

January's box from The Vegan Kind was packed full of goodies for a great start to the year.

Mini Vego Chocolate Bar
Squirrel Sisters Delicious Snack Bars Cacao Brownie
Dr Organic Olive Oil Hand & Nail Cream
Provamel Organic Rice Milk Coconut Drink
Teen VGN Recipe Book
Snact Apple & Raspberry Fruit Jerky
Soffle's Rosemary & Thyme Pitta Chips
Veganuary Wristband

Mini Vego Chocolate Bar

I love vego. Give me a vego bar of any shape or size and I will treasure it... for a moment, and then munch it all up! These mini ones are so cute, with just 2 squares of chocolate - perfect for sharing with Mr Hatter (I suppose!). (If you've been living under a rock and don't know what Vego is, and you like chocolate and hazelnuts, GO BUY ONE NOW!)

Squirrel Sisters Delicious Snack Bars Cacao Brownie

Squirrel Sisters bars are made using natural, raw ingredients and are both vegan and gluten free. I love that it comes in two portions, so you can share if you want - or just eat them both yourself! I liked these but Mr Hatter wasn't too keen - he tends not to like cacao though!

Dr Organic Olive Oil Hand & Nail Cream

I don't tend to use hand cream very often but I have tested this and it left my hands feeling lovely and soft, with a pleasant, gentle fragrance.

Provamel Organic Rice Milk Coconut Drink

TVK sent out three different flavours of Provamel rice milk drink - I got the Rice Milk with Coconut, with the other options being Rice Milk with Chocolate or Rice Milk with Pineapple. This was pleasant to drink straight out of the box but I had already decided to make hot chocolate with it (using a splash of chocolate orange Choc Shot), and it was gorgeous. I would be interested to see what the pineapple flavour is like!

Teen VGN Recipe Book

Teen VGN provide online support for young vegans - a resource I wish had been around when I was younger! I'll be honest, I've not cooked anything out of this cook book yet but the recipes sound great! A few that caught my eye include:

Apple Pie Green Smoothie
Avocado and Chickpea Toast
Homemade Melted Cheese
Fully Loaded Sushi Bowl
Blueberry Lime Cheesecake

Snact Apple & Raspberry Fruit Jerky

Snact makes fruit snacks using surplus products - e.g. fruit that is too big/small/ugly to be sold! This fruit jerky is made with 100% fruit and tastes great. I wasn't too sure about the texture but the flavour was spot on.

Soffle's Rosemary & Thyme Pitta Chips

These pitta chips had a satisfying crunch and a great flavour. I also love the packaging! Yummy!

Veganuary Wristband

Campaigns such as Veganuary seem to cause a bit of a stir in the vegan world, with some people saying it makes people think it's okay to go back to eating meat once the month is over and others supporting it wholeheartedly. Personally, I think it's a good idea as it can act as a great introduction to veganism for those who are curious but want support, or aren't sure where to start. Yes, some people do go back to their old lifestyle once the month has ended but a lot continue on their vegan journey and that can't be a bad thing!

Veganuary is also the charity of the month, meaning that 10p from each box sold will be donated to them.

The recipe of the month was for a Hearty Bean Soup from Heidi Hearts - perfect for this wintery weather!
