The Vegan Kind - Valentine's Special Box

Vegan Subscription Boxes For Everyone

The Vegan Kind tend to offer a number of limited edition boxes throughout the year - usually around holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and Valentine's Day. Mr Hatter and I don't do V-day but we do like chocolate, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a special box of vegan chocolate! (I also love that the filler was unicorn-coloured sparkly stuff instead of the usual paper!)

Sarelle Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate Cream Filled Wafer
Sweet Virtues Baoab and Vanilla Truffles
Ombar Centres Raspberry and Coconut

Vego Vegolino Pralines

I looove Vego chocolate. Whoever thought of hazelnut and chocolate as a combination was a genius. These pralines are a smooth, velvety version of the Vego chocolate. They are so moreish!

iChoc White Vanilla

I used to love white chocolate in my pre-vegan days. I still enjoy it, but I find that none of it tastes as creamy as I remember it being. This chocolate is at the top end of the white chocolate I've tried though, the vanilla really finished off the flavour well.

Almighty Foods Raspberry & Coconut Botanical Raw Cacao Bar

This was really tasty. It felt like a "healthier" chocolate bar, but that didn't detract from it being lovely!

Sarelle Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate Cream Filled Wafer

This one reminded me so much of a Fererro Rocher, it was great!

Sweet Virtues Baoab and Vanilla Truffles

These were a bit on the bitter side for Mr Hatter but I loved them! And they sound super healthy too!

Ombar Centres Raspberry and Coconut

As I've said before, I love Ombar. They are on the healthy side of chocolate but they taste soooo indulgent! This is my go-to "stressful day at work" snack.

Vegan Subscription Boxes For Everyone

I've managed to write my review for the most recent box from The Vegan Kind in the month I received it - YAY!

The February box was packed full of lovely items that Mr Hatter and I have enjoyed using.

Candy Kittens and Hello Kitty Sour Apple Sweets
Simply7 Bruschetta Lentil Crisps
Human+Kind Watermelong Hand+Elbow+Foot Cream
Ombar Centres Raspberry & Coconut
Quinola Mothergrain Express Quinos and Indian Style Chickpeas
Virtue Peach and Strawberry Ice Tea

Candy Kittens and Hello Kitty Sour Apple Sweets

These are great chewy sweets, with a lovely sour apple flavour. There don't seem to be many chewy vegan sweets out there, but these ones really do hit the spot!

Simply7 Bruschetta Lentil Crisps

These crisps are fantastic! I love the texture of lentil crisps, and this flavour was great - they didn't last long!

Human+Kind Watermelon Hand+Elbow+Foot Cream

This smells gorgeous and makes my hands lovely and soft. I tend to have pretty sensitive skin, and this seems to be quite kind - so that's a bonus!

Ombar Centres Raspberry & Coconut

This is my go-to chocolate snack if I need a pick-me-up at work. I love this flavour - but then again, I don't think I've tried a bad flavour from Ombar!

Quinola Mothergrain Express Quinos and Indian Style Chickpeas

We've not tried this yet but it looks great. It will be going in one of our pack lunches for work this week!

Virtue Peach and Strawberry Ice Tea

I don't like ice tea, so Mr Hatter had this. (I did try it and still didn't like ice tea!) He enjoyed it though, and thought it was a good flavour.

The charity of the month is Scottish Animal Behaviour and Rescue Centre, so they will be receiving 10p per box sold this month. The charity is run completely by volunteers, and is a sanctuary for abandoned, maltreated, and retired animals.

This month's recipe card was from My Fruity Kitchen and sounds divine - Raspberry Chocolate Truffles! I will definitely be adding this to my list of recipes to try!

January Food Round-Up (Misc)

So, I wrote a round-up of our explorations with the Vegans Of Leeds discount card, but there was more food (gasp!) that I explored over the course of the month.

First up, we have the January box from The Vegan Kind, which I just didn't find time to write about - but I am getting back on track and will write about the two boxes I received from them this month! (The short review - it was fab, as always!)

In WHSmith, I found an interesting twist on the standard vegan "falafel and hummus" option - "Sweet Potato Falafel with a Lemon and Coriander Houmous, Roasted Red Peppers & Lettuce on Malted Brown Bread". A much better sandwich than I was expecting, as I just needed a quick lunch! It was great to see something labelled so clearly as vegan in a chain like WHSmith.

A couple of new finds at Pret A Manger - Cauliflower & Chickpea Dahl, Foccacia, and the Mango Chia Pot to follow. The dahl was really tasty, and the chia pot was a lot nicer than I was expecting! I thought it would feel too much like a healthy pudding, but the combination of rich coconut yogurt and sweet mango was fantastic.

We went to Handmade Burger Co for the first time in January because they were offering 50% off all vegan food for Veganuary. They have four vegan burgers to choose from, all of which sound great. We will definitely be going back! Between us, we sampled the Cajun burger, the Thai burger, regular fries, sweet potato fries, and a couple of gigantic Oreo milkshakes. I have to note that these milkshakes were absolutely fantastic - definitely near the top of my vegan milkshake list! (They have only recently been beaten by V Rev because they were topped with squirty cream!)

My fantastic birthday bagel, featuring VegiDeli sausages and Violife cheese:

We also made a vegan "Baileys" birthday cheesecake (instead of a regular cake), using Besos De Oro and VeganEgg. It was awesome.

For Burns Night, I visited Haggisman in Trinity Kitchen to try some of their gorgeous vegan haggis, with neeps and tatties! I've never had meaty haggis but this was pure comfort food. I would definitely recommend it!

So, yes, we ate a LOT of good food during January - and I don't even feel guilty about it!
